Wolf

Wolf is a brand of power tools orginating in England. Wolf power tools are recorded as being available in Australia from least the mid 1950's. Anecdotal evidence suggested that for a short period Wolf set up a manufacturing plant in Sydney NSW. I managed to purchase this Wolf Safetymaster drill of Ebay because it clearly states on the label that it is Made in Australia.

  1. This drill is really unique. I think this one is a oldiest model or wolf am I right?

  2. That is interesting, I didn't realize that they were also manufactured in Australia, although I knew they were available there)

I have a very similar drill to that, though it has quite a few differences, it's completely finished in blue hammered effect paint, even the red plastic part, and doesn't have the second riveted on data plate (though the rivets are there, it appears it was never fitted with one) I'm guessing it is a later model as it lacks the cast in wolf logo

  3. The history of 'Wolf Electric Tools', as they were known, and which separates them from other manufacturers with 'Wolf' in their product naming, is one of those 'might have been' stories. They produced some of the finest quality tools, with a deserved reputation for power and reliability, especially their industrial range.

Not so much the good old Safetymaster, which struggled with the more widely available, heavily marketed, but generally inferior opposition.

This is where, in an attempt to brighten up their image, the long running Australian 'BP Pick-a-Box' gameshow entered the Wolf story.
Wolf products were given as prizes to contestants, and dubious scenarios were acted out by the host and his wife, along the lines of 'a Wolf drill is so light, even your wife can use it....lovely colour too' (It was 50 years ago!)

I knew nothing of the manufacture of Wolf tools in Sydney, though I knew they were made under licence in India.... still are, I believe, under the name 'RallyWolf'

  5. yes in Australia wolf were situated at Chester hill NSW.
we were i manufacturing at the time and had a direct a/c with them.the wolf safire electric hand saw was the most powerful at the time and ergonomically superior to most, unfortunately mine was stolen. their screwdriver guns, were way more powerful than the equivalent Makita of that period.
and a bit of background- i am pommy by birth, wolf and blackanddecker were trade tool not double insulated at that time. blackandecker were trash, by entering low grade products, into the home handy man market. Wolf i believe did not do so.
